SUMMER SIPPING: The Pearl launches Manchester's first-ever wine window

3 June 2026 by Rhiannon Ingle

Neighbourhood favourite The Pearl is bringing a touch of Tuscany to Prestwich Village with the long-awaited launch of its very own wine window - a charming wooden hatch inspired by the historic buchette del vino (wine windows) of Florence.

Traditionally used in 16th-century Florence for serving wine directly from family wine cellars to passers-by, these small street-facing windows became symbols of hospitality and local culture. Now, The Pearl is giving the concept a distinctly Prestwich twist.

The handcrafted wine window will serve wine by the glass, beer and seasonal cocktails from the bar menu, directly onto the street. Guests simply need to ring the bell to attract the attention of the bartender before placing their order, recreating the sense of occasion and interaction that made Florence's historic wine windows so beloved. A selection of outdoor seating will also be available, allowing visitors to relax with a drink and enjoy the atmosphere of Prestwich Village.

“After our planning application was rejected 2 years ago we never thought we’d get it over the line, but thanks to Eamonn O’Brien and his vision for Prestwich High street, we’re excited to bring the first wine window to Manchester - it will be great for the village and it’s a special way to make use of the green space next to us which was once in a state of disrepair” said Sam Taylor, owner of The Pearl.

“Prestwich is our home, and we’re keen, along with the other local businesses, to continue to make it a great place to live”.

To celebrate the launch, The Pearl will host a family-friendly party on Saturday 6 June 2026 from 1 pm, bringing together residents, visitors and local businesses for an afternoon of wine and live entertainment from jazz outfit, the Ted Branson Quartet, on the green adjacent to The Pearl.
