SWEET TREAT: Half Dozen Other open new site at Oxford Road's Circle Square

8 December 2024 by Rhiannon Ingle

One of the best bakeries in Manchester, Half Dozen Other, is opening a brand-new site bringing its unique offering of 'classic bakes, modern takes' to Bruntwood’s popular Circle Square development.

The bakery and cafe is set to open on Monday (9th December) and will serve coffee, pastry and bread seven days a week from 7:00 am with late openings on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

To kick off the exciting new opening, Half Dozen Other has teamed up with Ozone Coffee to offer £1 coffees every day throughout this month!

Over the past five years, the bakery founded by Pot Kettle Black owners Jon Wilkin and Mark Flanagan has grown from a 50-square-foot location to its current 5,000-square-foot home in an iconic pink industrial unit on Red Bank.

With a thriving wholesale business and a permanent bakery shop that opened in July 2024, the team are expanding and joining the growing community of Manchester independents over at Circle Square on Manchester’s bustling Oxford Road.

The new site will welcome an extended offering with sandwiches and hot savoury items joining the menu, all masterminded by head baker Mark Wegner, the man responsible for Half Dozen Other’s showstopping monthly menus.

Responding to news of the opening at Circle Square, Mark said: "It’s opposite Gregg's. The exact opposite."

Celebrating the dedication of the team, Jon Wilkin added: "We're obsessed with creating things that didn't exist yesterday. Our bakers are already working their magic while Manchester's bars are still thumping, committing to a mind-bending graft against the clock to ensure your morning toast is worth getting out of bed for.

"Some people count sheep to fall asleep, we count pastries to stay awake. It's our obsession, an obsession that's growing. Speaking of growth, we’re pretty chuffed to be opening a bakery shop in Circle Square on Oxford Road. Come at us!"

The new site will house a pastry room, kitchen and cafe. Products will arrive every morning freshly baked from their Red Bank site before being hand finished in the pastry room visible via a window, so customers waiting for coffee can catch a glimpse of the pastry chefs’ expertise.

The extended menu will also feature a range of lunchtime savoury items baked onsite available to grab straight out of the oven!

The next year looks big for Half Dozen Other, with the opening of their new site plus more exciting collaborations following on from the Chai Custard Tart they produced with Dishoom earlier this year.
