Tampopo back in the Corn Exchange with new look, new menu and free curries

5 December 2015 by Neil Sowerby

TAMPOPO, Manchester’s original, authentic, pan-Asian chain, has officially re-opened the doors of its Corn Exchange branch, revealing a completely new look and a transformed dining experience.

To celebrate they are giving away FREE 100 new-to-the-menu Massaman Curries (voted in by customers, see below) to the first 100 Tampopo fans through the doors from 1pm on Thursday, December 10!

The re-launch marks an exciting new chapter for the first Manchester-based restaurant to make their home at the iconic building back in 2008.

Now, just as the Exchange has been transformed into a dining and drinking mecca, it’s fitting Tampopo has revamped itself, too. The minimal, communal, bench style seating is gone, making way for a more comfortable, cosier environment with a strong visual nod to the South East Asian countries that inform its cuisine.

The new Tampopo features plush banquet seating; elegant mosaic tiling; romantic Chinese lanterns; a semi private dining space; large communal round dining tables (complete with ‘Lazy Susan’), original, lightbox logo graphic and lots of vintage Asian artwork.

A bar area has also been added so that customers can enjoy post or pre-dinner drinks (or just pop in for a cocktail), while the restaurant can now accommodate 105 diners and bigger parties than ever before – the semi private space can be reserved for groups of up to 35.

Co-founder David Fox and his team have added seven new dishes, including a new ‘small plates’ collection. The grazing/street snack plates are something that have been in development since the Corn Exchange closed its doors and it was trialled at their temporary Tam Pop Up structure outside in Exchange Square.

As well as all the rest of the Tampopo classic dishes (from Nasi Goreng to Pad Thai), the Corn Exchange outlet will also have one extra dish exclusive to this site… Tampopo’s first Massaman curry – at the request of customers consulted over what they’d like to see in the new space.

Tampopo celebrated their rebirth with a a VIP party featuring guests from the world of music, TV, sport, showbiz and the media.

David Fox commented:  “This is a really exciting time for us. The re-launch of Tampopo at The Corn Exchange sees so many of our new ideas come together, ideas we’ve been working on and developing for months. Everything from the new look, style and branding, to the realizsation of our small plates dishes has been a real journey of discovery, one which we’ve shared with our customers.

“I’m really pleased to see Tampopo evolve – we’ve been around for 18 years after all – and particularly to see our grazing concept take off. Tampopo has always been about exploring new flavours and small plates facilitate that.”

Tampopo at The Corn Exchange open Mon-Wed, 12pm-10.30pm, Thur-Sat 12pm-11pm and Sun 12pm-11pm.
