There’s a new buzz in the arches - and this one’s glowing bright orange as TANGERINE, a bold new independent venture bridging Manchester and Salford, will be officially swinging open its doors on Friday 31st October, promising a heady mix of art, food, drink and late-night energy.
Tucked between the tracks of Salford Central Station, just down from Crazy Pedro’s and Dishoom on New Bailey Street, TANGERINE is the work of a collective of Manchester’s most inventive hospitality minds. Together, they’ve transformed two vast railway arches into a multi-sensory playground that blends arthouse cool with canteen comfort and martini bar swagger. Think: a creative hub where espresso meets negroni, where DJs spin beside local artists and where dinner can slide effortlessly into dancing.
Across its interconnected spaces - Arthouse, Cantina Collective, Martini Bar, Music Hall, and Roastery - the venue invites guests to drift from one mood to the next. Expect seasonal small plates, handcrafted cocktails, immersive art, and live music that celebrates the best of Manchester’s eclectic scene.
The venue breathes new life into derelict sub-platform spaces, carefully reclaiming materials, artwork, vehicles, and even the echoes of the old railway structure itself resulting in a buzzy 300-cover venue that celebrates Manchester’s heritage while pulsing with contemporary energy.
Inside, the venue unfolds across two grand arches. Platform 1 is a hive of daytime activity - home to a bakery, coffee roastery, florist, wine store, and the Canteen Club. Over on Platform 2, night owls will find a music hall, arthouse stage, and the showstopping Grand Departures Bar, where martinis take centre stage - including seven different espresso martinis for the city’s caffeine-loving crowd.
At the heart of TANGERINE lies the Canteen Kitchens - a platform celebrating Manchester’s most exciting independent eateries. Seven handpicked kitchens form the opening lineup:
- VANDA, a family-run Parisian-inspired Ukrainian bakery
- PANTHERA HOT TACO, serving fiery Mexican flavours
- JUICY, flipping some of the city’s juiciest burgers
- YO DUTCHIE, a Dutch-Japanese mash-up where loaded fries meet yakitori
- Plus a new Korean + Ramen concept from the creators of Unagi - and more still to be revealed...
Complementing the kitchens are a florist, in-house coffee roastery (beans roasted daily on-site), delicatessen, and curated wine store and bottle shop. The Cantina Collective is designed to evolve with the seasons, supported by WANT Studios, led by Exec Chef Will Taplin (Ramona, Firehouse, Diecast).
True to its railway roots, Grand Departures preserves the industrial soul of the arches. Expect a 40-tap bar pouring the best of local and international craft beer, alongside a dramatic espresso martini bar built directly into the brickwork. It’s part taproom, part cocktail theatre — a space for beer lovers and nightcap chasers alike.
But TANGERINE is more than a place to eat and drink - it’s a cultural stage. The Arthouse hosts immersive screenings, experimental performances, and installations, while the Music Hall gives both emerging and established artists an intimate space to connect with audiences. Together, they anchor TANGERINE as a new hub for independent art and performance in the city.
The grand opening lands with a Halloween weekender, calling curious Mancunians to lose themselves in TANGERINE’s labyrinth of sound, colour, and flavour. There’ll be live acts, DJ sets, pop-up performances, and exclusive dishes from the resident Cantina Collective. Entry is free with advance sign-up via their website — though, fair warning, it’s set to fill up fast.
Owner Artyom Dmitrijev (Tangerine / Mala) said: "Over a year in the making, we’ve used all our experience in design, interiors, architecture and hospitality to create our dream project. A place for all the independents to come together and thrive.”
Andy Windsor, Director of WANT Studios, added: “Tangerine unites the city’s independent kitchens, bartenders, bakeries and entertainment specialists. It’s not just another venue — it’s a new space for creativity, food, and culture, and we’re proud to be part of it.”
TANGERINE will open its doors to the public on Halloween weekend, with launch parties taking place on Friday 31st Oct & Saturday 1st November.
