TASTING NOTES FROM JAMES BRANDWOOD OF ATOMECA

8 June 2021 by Deanna Thomas

We’ve been asking some of Manchester’s movers and shakers where their favourite places are to eat and drink in and around the city.

This week, we caught up with James Brandwood who, with award-winning bartenders Joe and Daniel Schofield, has recently launched ATOMECA, an all-day European-style ‘drinkery’ on the ground floor of Deansgate Square. (Read more about that here.)

Brandwood, formerly of Vinehop in Poynton, looks after the wine offering making sure there are lots of interesting bottles on offer.

But if James ever gets a minute to stop working and enjoy himself, where does he like to go?

My favourite place to eat out in Manchester is…

Bar San Juan, Chorlton - I love the old school, neighbourhood feel, and it’s the kind of place you can go every week.

The best dish I’ve eaten in Manchester recently…

…was the bone-in rib eye, with bone marrow and anchovy butter at ERST. The flavour was just incredible!

My favourite dining room in Manchester is…

Hawksmoor – It’s beautifully fitted, has lots of character and feels like you're somewhere else.

My favourite lunch spot in Manchester is…

Café Istanbul – It’s down to earth, with quality authentic food. No frills at its best!

If I had to eat only one thing for the rest of my days, it would be…

Rudy's pizza! - I love Pizza, what else can I say?
