We’ve been asking some of Manchester’s movers and shakers where their favourite places are to eat and drink in and around the city.
This week, we caught up with Jonny Heyes who, with his wife Charlotte, has created some of Manchester’s most well-loved restaurants, bars and events.
They are behind Common Bar, Port Street Beer House, ‘the pub that Manchester built’ The Pilcrow, The Beagle in Chorlton, Nell’s Pizza and the soon-to-open Cornerstone which will be coming to Kampus later in 2021. They are also behind some of Manchester’s successful drink appreciation events including Indy Man Beer Con and Summer Beer Thing.
But if Jonny ever gets a minute to stop working and enjoy himself, where does he like to go?
My favourite place to eat out in Manchester is…
I’m a big fan of Erst, I really love what they’re doing over there. I haven’t been able to get a table since the end of lockdown annoyingly, good for Erst though, bravo.
The best dish I’ve eaten in Manchester recently…
On recommendation from Pippy Eats we went to Jade City and had the most amazing dim sum and roast pork (sadly the roast duck was sold out so we’ll have to go back soon).
My favourite dining room in Manchester is…
Hawksmoor takes some beating for that old world charm but I also love WTLGI for when the sun blazes through those big windows, it’s really stunning.
My favourite lunch spot in Manchester is…
I’d probably favour a mainly liquid lunch at The Jane Eyre and mop it up with a few of their small plates. Or Schofield's Bar, an olive in a Martini counts as lunch, right?
If I had to eat only one thing for the rest of my days it would be…
It would probably be the Mis Mas Makhanwala from the legendary Great Kathmandu Tandoori Restaurant on Burton Rd.
