Tasty walks for food fans

2 April 2012

Ideal for those after something new to do this Easter, Footloose Food Walks offers guided walks complete with ‘behind-the-scenes’ tastings as well as lunches or dinners of local produce.

This new venture has been set up by experienced walker and tour guide, Yvonne Hosker, with consultant Heidi Schaefer. The project launches this week with day walks in Lancashire and Yorkshire as well as a full, weekend break in Morecambe in May.

The first walk is in rural Lancashire on Thursday 5 April. This includes the chance to visit an award-winning corn-fed duck farm and a traditional Lancashire cheese maker. The next event is an outing on Wednesday 11 April in the Colne Valley near Huddersfield to visit an artisan breadmaker, a micro-brewery and organic vegetable growers. Finally, those after more of a holiday than a day out can sign up for a weekend, 11 to 13 May, which offers the chance to sample food produced in and around Morecambe Bay - and which includes a guided walk across Morecambe Bay itself.

Yvonne Hosker, co-director of Footloose Food Walks says: “All our events are informal and friendly. We walk in small groups on gentle paths and lanes to meet and sample from the small local producers we’ve hand picked. In between we sit down to a fabulous lunch of the locally made food and drink.”
