ONE or two grouches have been moaning that too many breweries from outside the city have infiltrated Manchester Beer Week. We say bring it on. We had a great time at Summer Beer Thing (pictured below).
Still it’s great to see the closing weekend boasting a very homegrown hoedown in the gloriously named Temperance Street, arch-ridden constituent of the Piccadilly Beer Mile, which so many of the new craft brewers call home. A section of the street will be cordoned off in front of Beer Nouveau (their founder Steve Dunkley is pictured), who along with Marble Brewery are helping organise the Temperance Street Party.
It offers a roll call of the city’s finest (apologies if we’ve left any out): Beer Nouveau, Marble, Beatnikz Republic, Blackjack, Joseph Holt, Pomona Island, Rivington Brewing Co, Runaway, Thirst Class Ale and Wander Beyond. They are joined by special guests Hawkshead from The Lakes and Brooklyn from across The Pond.
There’ll be food, music, games and fun for all the family. Pets are welcome, too. Just for this event, Brooklyn Brewery are bringing along a series of rare and unusual beers for two tastings. They'll host two tastings –one at 2.30pm and one at 4.30pm – at Beer Nouveau with all proceeds from ticket sales being donated to Manchester Beer Week’s chosen charity Mustard Tree. Tickets for this are £10. Book them here.
Saturday, July 7, 12pm-9pm. 71-80 Temperance Street, Manchester, M12. Free.
