6 October 2022 by Deanna Thomas

This October, creative cocktail bar and restaurant group The Alchemist, has partnered with plant-based meat brand, Meatless Farm, to launch a NEW Sustainable Supper Club – a delicious cocktail and food pairing menu with a sustainability masterclass from industry experts.

This event is being held for two nights only across Manchester and London (19th October and 27th October respectively), the pop-up supper club will kick off at 7pm and serve up The Alchemist’s carefully curated food and cocktail menu to showcase the best in sustainable sourcing and production, ethical practices and suppliers.

Celebrating the venue’s groundbreaking new low-waste cocktail menu, the events will be held in association with Meatless Farm, Discarded, Ellers Farm Distillery, and Sipsmith. Tickets will be available for members of the public to buy online, priced from £40. And for every ticket sale, Foodinate will provide a hot nutritious meal to the local community, while Sipsmith will donate £1 for every cocktail purchased*.

Ticket holders will enjoy six plates of plant-based food created alongside the expert chefs at Meatless Farm, followed by a final course of a dessert cocktail. Each course will also be paired with a handpicked cocktail from The Alchemist’s new menu.

We went along to a preview of the menu which incorporates innovative dishes made with Meatless Farm’s plant-based meat alternatives such as the Tuna Cracker, Harissa Mince Taco, and Teriyaki Chicken.

Other plates and sides include Shredded Plant-Based Duck Bao with Miso Mayo, Lettuce and Fresh Chili, Smashed Potato, and Barbecued Leek Heart. Drinks include a Green Gimlet, the Recycled Paper Plane that features Discarded banana peel rum, Aperol, red wine, and Averno Amaro, and a sweet dessert cocktail, the Carrot Top.

For those looking for simple ways to be more sustainable, the night will also feature guest speakers giving their top sustainability tips, with a masterclass on how to make the most of your waste, showing how everyday ingredients can be used to make unique cocktails and garnishes. Plus, foodie insights will be shared on how to be more mindful of food waste and seasonality.

Jenny McPhee, Brand Director at The Alchemist said: “We have always been known for our creative cocktails, but in line with our wider sustainability ambitions, we wanted to create a truly innovative drinks menu like no other.

“Our new Sustainable Cocktail menu puts to use items that are regularly wasted in the hospitality industry, so it’s great to see them make it onto the menu.

Meatless Farm and our event partners share the same sustainable ethos as us, so it’s very exciting to be partnering for a one-of-a-kind event like this. We can’t wait to see our guests enjoying the food and drink!”

Morten Toft-Bech, Founder of Meatless Farm, said: “As two companies that are constantly wanting to strive for change and innovation, we have worked together with The Alchemist to make over 50% of its menu plant-based and had some great fun in the process.

These two nights are designed to inspire and excite people into seeing the possibilities of plant-based and low waste food in action, so it’s brilliant to see such a creative menu on offer.”

The Sustainable Supper Club will be hosted at The Alchemist Spinningfields, 3 Hardman Street, Spinningfields, Manchester, M3 3HF on Wednesday 19th October from 7 pm- 9 pm (£40 per ticket) and The Alchemist Embassy Gardens, 1 Ponton Road, Nine Elms, SW11 7BD on Thursday 27th October from 7 pm-9 pm (£45 per ticket).
