A new delivery service specialising in savoury and sweet waffles and crepes launches in Manchester this week. Available via Deliveroo and Uber Eats from 13th July, The Crepe & Waffle House is a traditional dessert concept reinvented.
Founder and Managing Director, Dominic Bowers, launched the first Crepe & Waffle House in Trentham, North Staffordshire in 2020 straight after the first lockdown but set his sights on Manchester (his original hometown) for its next location. The Crepe & Waffle House Manchester will initially launch as a delivery service, but Dominic’s plan is to open a dedicated restaurant soon.
“Being a Mancunian, I’ve always had an affinity for the area, and I love to see that the city is thriving more than ever now,” says Dominic. “We are thrilled to bring The Crepe & Waffle House to Manchester, where we’ll be delivering our incredible crepes and waffles for now, but we hope to soon have our own restaurant where our customers can relax and indulge in the delicious comfort food that we love to make.”
All elements are made in-house every day and the menu is split into three sections, so there’s something for any time of the day. The Savoury Ones begin with a classic French crepe or a Bubble waffle, to be loaded up with popular global flavour combinations (using only halal chicken.)
The Sweet Chilli Chicken One, inspired by Thailand, is a crepe filled with chicken breast, stir-fried vegetables on a bed of rocket, and layered with sweet chilli sauce and fresh chilli. The Hunters Chicken One - a spin on the French classic Chicken Chasseur – is a crepe stuffed with sliced chicken breast, crisp streaky bacon, melted cheddar and hickory smoked BBQ sauce with rocket.
As each dish is made to order there’s the opportunity to request other dishes be made vegan, but plant-based crepes on the menu include The Hoisin One is filled with mock duck, hoisin sauce and stir-fried vegetables, sprinkled with black and white sesame and spring onions. The Falafel One comes with homemade humous, sweet potato falafel, stir-fried vegetables, creamy harissa spiced sauce and rocket.
“We all know and love fried chicken with waffles but what’s restraining us from experimenting with savoury combinations as much as we do sweet?” asks Dominic. “The Crepe & Waffle House offers all the classic indulgent sweet crepes and waffles but what makes us stand out is our extensive menu of savoury options. All made in-house, from scratch, our menu is super inclusive to cater for different taste preferences and dietary requirements.”
It's never too early for a crepe so he’s also invented The Breakfast One with cheese, sausages, streaky bacon and tomatoes seasoned with black pepper and chives. There’s even a gluten-free waffle - The Croque One - stacked with cheddar cheese, smoked ham, Dijon mayonnaise and rocket. Can’t decide between savoury and sweet? The Fried Chicken One takes a bubble waffle topped with Southern style fried chicken goujons and crispy streaky bacon, plus lashings of maple syrup.
The Sweet Ones include waffles and crepes loaded with a choice of Biscoff, Reese’s, M&Ms, Oreo, Crunchie, fresh berries, banana, chocolate and toffee sauce, and ice cream, or keep it simple with freshly squeezed lemon juice and sugar. Light and fluffy Vegan American pancakes feature on the menu, in addition to gluten-free sweet waffles.
Not enough sugar? Indulgent shakes include pavlova, brownie, banoffee and Cookies & Cream flavours. A Vegan Shake is also available, choose from strawberry, chocolate and vanilla plant-based ice cream. The Crepe & Waffle House also offers seasonal specials.
The Crepe and Waffle House will launch on the 13th July, and be available to order from Deliveroo within a 5 mile radius of Manchester city centre, delivering from 4pm to 10 pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
