The Lowry Hotel launches a thoroughly Manchester five-course menu for MFDF

9 September 2022 by Taste of Manchester

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Manchester Food & Drink Festival, the five-star Lowry Hotel has launched a new five-course menu, featuring the very best Mancunian delicacies.

The River Restaurant’s new Manchester-centric menu has been curated by newly appointed, Executive Chef, Dominic Grundy, to celebrate the very best of the city’s famed dishes with a contemporary angle.

Appetisers include sourdough and focaccia from local Manchester based Bread Factory who are renowned for their artisan bakes and pastries.

The starter features ‘Manchester caviar’ – better known throughout the city as mushy peas - delicately paired with smoked chicken and Parmesan.

For the main course, there’s Boddingtons’ braised beef cheek rag pudding, a heart-warming classic made with suet pastry and the very best cut of braising beef. This will be followed by an Eccles cake, perfectly paired with Lancashire cheese.

And for dessert, the famed Manchester tart – served with vanilla custard, raspberry jam and lightly dusted with coconut.

To complete the five-course dining experience, coffee will be served with a selection of freshly prepared petit fours.

The River Restaurant’s Manchester Menu is priced at £50pp and is available between 15-17 and 22-24 September.

Dominic Grundy, Executive Head Chef at The Lowry Hotel’s River Restaurant said: “Creating dishes that showcase the very best of Manchester hospitality has been great fun. Adapting Northern classics and using locally sourced produce has allowed us to create a selection of truly unique classic dishes with a contemporary, tasteful twist.

“The Lowry Hotel is incredibly proud of its Manchester roots, and so, it felt only right to join the 25th anniversary celebrations, while showcasing the very best of what we have to offer.”

Manchester Food and Drink Festival is an annual take-over of the city, running from 15 – 26 September to celebrate Manchester hospitality – and celebrating 25 years this year.

The festival aims to position the city’s dining scene as both exciting and influential and features a host of events and bespoke menus for everyone to enjoy across the city.
