The Lowry Hotel Wine Dinners are the pick of the bunch for fine wines

7 October 2015

“Wine is like music, ” says Huseyin Bozkurt, food and beverage manager at The Lowry Hotel. “The winemaker must balance all the flavours, like playing the right keys on a piano to get the perfect tune.”

Judging by the popularity of the Wine Dinners at The Lowry Hotel, Bozkurt’s wine and food matching evenings have been music to wine lover’s ears. The nights have proven so popular that two new dates have been added to the calendar before the end of the year.

Huseyin and his team invite some of the worlds finest wineries to The Lowry Hotel to present their wines to the guests. Introductions are followed by a bespoke four course dinner, which has been designed to match perfectly with the wine selected for the evening.

While there's countless wine pairing nights across Manchester, why have the Lowry Wine Dinners - which have been running since 2009 - remained so popular? It could be that Bozkart’s expertise in wines, penchant for innovation and his flair for service is equally as important as the wine itself.

“I drink certain wines depending on how I feel, a bit like music." Bozkurt continues. "Sometimes I listen to Four Seasons, Bob Marley, or heavy Rock. Wine to me is just like that. There’s times you feel like drinking champagne, and there’s times you feel like drinking a really heavy Rioja.”

“I have been here for around 10 years; I love what I do, and I’m very very passionate. I enjoy it – I think I am one of the chosen ones to entertain people.” Bozkurt says with a smile.

Bozkurt and the Lowry have a classic style of service, but their products and events - such as the wine dinners - are always at the forefront of the food and drink scene. As well as presenting some of the leading wineries from across the world, Huseyin may be one of the only people in Manchester to serve vintage tea to the Wine Dinners guests.

“Innovation is my biggest thing,” states Bozkurt. “I’m always looking for what’s next. I like to mix it up a bit, and a serve vintage tea to the guests. ”

“Vintage tea is picked and aged for almost half a century. It's like wine, but when the is tea dried it becomes far more complex. It becomes this different beast, a different animal,” Bozkurt explains.

"We like to make our evenings a bit more different. For example, when you buy a bottle of wine at the supermarket, you might not know much about the soil or the climate the grapes were grown in- that’s what we teach you about."
