The Moor the merrier as wine and beer specialists invade the Heatons

BEST suburb to sup in? Well, the Heatons are certainly staking their claim. Already blessed with the likes of Heaton Hops, Bottle and a clutch of fine locals, now there’s a duo of outlets offering the best in both hop and grape.

Previewed here last month, the new larger version of Sale’s Cork of the North is an impressive addition to Heaton Moor Road. New order DJ Marc Hough’s “biggest and best wine shop and wine bar that Manchester and Cheshire has ever seen” is at No 104.

It has been joined at No 157 by a sibling of West Didsbury bottle shop Epicurean, arguably the best craft beer outlet in South Manchester. The new branch occupies a former Victoria Wine store and is twice the size of the Burton Road original. There’s a good selection of wine and gin but it is the global  beer selection that really grabs the attention with a ‘growler’ machine to fuel your carry outs.
