THE PEARL: Manchester chef of the year launches brunch menu in Prestwich hotspot

9 September 2026 by Rhiannon Ingle

Head chef Matthew Bennett, winner of this year’s Chef of the Year at the MFDF Awards, is set to launch an elevated brunch menu at chic Prestwich neighbourhood bistro, The Pearl.

From Saturday, September 26th, the menu will lead with Anglo-Franco classics; there’s just one catch: you won’t find avocado on the menu.

The 24-cover restaurant will serve traditional British favourites like Bacon Rolls with Waterford Farm, Yorkshire-bred, smoked middle back bacon and black garlic ketchup, nostalgic dippy eggs with crispy potato rosti soldiers and Scottish grilled Kippers on toast with lemon and caper butter.

The Pearl Full English will be a generous plate of Littlewoods high-welfare sausages, smoked bacon, local eggs, black and hogs pudding, mushrooms, potato rosti, and a neat parcel of white tin loaf by local Manchester favourites, Companio Bakery.

The new brunch menu has the light European touch that The Pearl is celebrated for; Eggs Royale, Florentine & Benedict all feature, with homemade English muffins by The Pearl’s pastry chef Alfie Jones, and traditional hollandaise. French Toast with caramelised Companio Bakery brioche loaf, creme fraiche, seasonal berries and Golden Syrup and from the coffee menu, a Café Viennois - a double espresso with a heady dollop of whipped cream.

The breakfast cocktail menu provides some much-needed vitamin C with Yuzu Mimosas, Sussex ’75’s, Garibaldi’s and Breakfast Martinis. And a reviving Brown Sauce Bloody Mary that will bring even the most weary traveller back to life.

Prices range from £7 to £16 for mains.

“We wanted to see how we could translate our a la carte menu to brunch, always with a focus on sourcing high quality meat and fish - everything is familiar but it’s the very best produce on the plate. The menu is our take on brunch, drawing from my experience at Gidleigh Park.... And was avocado ever really that good? It’s pretty easy to knock up at home, isn’t it! I think we can do better. We have an English garden pea dish that will win you over.” said Matt Bennett, Head Chef.

At just 27, Head Chef Matt Bennett brings an impressive culinary pedigree to The Pearl from both 1 Michelin-star Mana in Manchester and a 3-year tenure as Sous Chef at 1 Michelin-star Gidleigh Park in Devon. He recently won the Chef of the Year award at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards 2026.

“Prestwich is our home & I’m looking forward to introducing a more casual offering & welcoming some new faces in the community. I’m proud of the menu the chefs have put together; it’s good produce, responsible sourcing, seasonal; it’s what we’re all about.” Sam Taylor, Owner.

The brunch menu at The Pearl will be served from Tuesday to Saturday, with the restaurant open for coffee from 8.30 am-2 pm and the kitchen open from 9 am-2 pm. (Last sitting 2 pm)
