It's official. According to our extensive research (Google + Wikipedia) January is the most depressing month of the year. All those resolutions - giving up drinking, giving up sugar, and giving up chocolate often result in giving up your sanity.
Here at Taste we're an advocate of Tryanuary (see our article on Taste of Leeds to see how they're doing it). Don't spend the January months giving up, spend them trying new things, try food you've never tried before, eat out somewhere new, learn about wine.
The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel makes trying new things easy - with an expertly curated menu devised around seasonal, local produce.
The à la carte menu has a range of mouth-watering dishes, including the old favourite seared scallops with Mettrick's Black Pudding and cauliflower.
Other stand out dishes include the octopus salad, with apple, potato, fennel and nasturtium, or the rosemary and parmesan gnocchi with red pepper, balsamic pearls and salsa vierge.
For the mains, the wild Sea Bass is sourced from nearby Morecambe, Lancashire and served with a flavoursome clam ragout. Meanwhile, the roasted saddle of rabbit is served with an earthy truffle mash, and a rich jus.
In addition to the A La Carte, The River Restaurant has released a January Chef's Special menu, a monthly changing menu which reflects the best produce available.
Relax, kick back and enjoy a leisurely two course lunch for £19.95, or a three course lunch or dinner for £24.95 (excluding Saturday Night). You can see the full January Chef's Choice Menu HERE.
This month’s menu includes mackerel ceviche, pressed duck leg, pomegranate chocolate mousse and more delicious options to try.
