The Northern Quarter has welcomed a new kid onto its cool, culinary block. Thomas, situated on its namesake street, has become the latest urban eatery to open in this ever emerging corner of the city. But its savvy owners are no strangers to this part of town, for the pioneering trio - Paul Astill, Nicky Rybka-Goldsmith and Yvonne Goldsmith-Rybka - are the forces behind Northern Quarter favourites Cord, The Bay Horse and Soup Kitchen. Their latest venture aims to bring together accomplished food, favourite drinks, value for money and a relaxing atmosphere in a contemporary city space.
Head chef Gareth Phillips (Greens in Didsbury, Atul Kochharsâ Benares in Mayfair and most recently Soup Kitchen) has helped create a collective menu of dishes that âwill appeal to everyone yet inhibit no-oneâ?, using local suppliers and quality produce. Customers can expect a variety of classic yet subtly enhanced favourites from the Posh Bloody Mary Shots with fresh oyster (£6) to the beer battered lightly spiced Fish and Chunky Chips (£9.50), and elegantly flavoured fresh Cheesecakes of the Day (£4.50.) Thomasâ clever architecture enables diners and drinkers to co-habit over the venueâs three floors , allowing for a choice of experience.
Sensitive to the current climate, Thomas is also offering any starter/main or main/dessert from the menu for £11.95 on Monday to Saturday before 6pm and weekend Sunday Roasts (individually priced at £8.95, or £11.95 for two courses and £15 for three courses). The restaurant is open Monday to Sunday, midday to midnight (last orders at 10pm).
