THE Tiffin Room in Cheadle, opened by Srini Sundaram and Suresh Raje Urs, has been a remarkable success in championing South Indian cuisine, only hampered by lack of space. Now that is remedied with plans to open a second Tiffin Room in the city centre’s coolest new frontier, the £500m First Street Development.
As this ‘cultural quarter’ springs into life there’s already fine food from Dave Spanner at the Innside Hotel and cineastes/art buffs who’ve made the transition from Cornerhouse to HOME will find a reassuring familiarity in the menu there, but the prospect of a dosa (pictured) with sambal and coconut chutney before that arthouse movie or baffling installation does have us salivating.
With the rumour mill suggesting MFDF Awards restaurant of the year nominees Mughli are eyeing a prime site in the Northern Quarter for a spin-off and (not to be confused) Mowgli from Liverpool bringing their acclaimed street food take to the Corn Exchange the next few months should see a thrilling injection of authentic spice into the city centre.
