Too Many Critics dinner raises £23,000+… now for Nepal

21 March 2018 by Neil Sowerby

MORE than £23,000 was raised for Action Against Hunger by this year’s Too Many Critics dinner, held at Manchester’s glamorous new destination restaurant, 20 Stories, on the 19th floor of the No1 Spinningfields tower.

It topped the £21,000 from the 2017 event at Iberica, all monies going to help save the lives of malnourished children in 50 countries worldwide.

The formula remained the same, critics’ dishes cookedd on the night being judged by some of the north’s best chefs – the likes of Adam Reid, Steven Smith and Mark Birchall, so no pressure there!

Taste of Manchester was privileged to have two representatives taking part – editor Neil Sowerby and Fodder podcaster and video ace Matt White (we’re the boys in the picture). Alas, first prize in a tight contest went to Louise Rhind-Tutt of I Love Manchester.

More than 150 fellow diners were cooked for by 20 Stories’ chef director Aiden Byrne and his team. This exclusive event, in association with Northern Restaurant and Bar 2018, was hosted royally by D&D London’s first Manchester venue.

Action Against Hunger Nepal Trek

IT’s a busy spring for AAH. Chef Richard Brown of Beastro in Spinningfields Leftbank is the latest food industry figure to join the humanitarian charity’s Nepal Trek, scheduled for April. The 21-strong team includes Mary-Ellen McTague (Creameries Chorlton and Manchester Art Gallery), Fiona Botham, from Levanter in Ramsbottom, Lucy Noone of R Noone & Son, chocolatier Paul A Young, Peter Sanchez (Casa Mia) and Josh Eggleton (Pony & Trap).

They faces five long days on their feet through mountainous, challenging terrain at altitudes of up to 4,300 metres. Facilities will be basic with no access to showers or toilets throughout the trek, and the team will camp each night along the route. Their ultimate goal to raise £110,000.
