Top five food markets in the Manchester area

Markets are springing up all over the Manchester area. Alongside the really well established ones like Bury and Bolton, there's a few new ones to check out.

1. Heaton Moor Market (1st Sun) 
Look out for Mafeking Biltong, Salkini’s Homemade Food, Belle Chocolats at this monthly market, offering artisan produce and snacks to eat on the go in historic Heaton Moor.

2. Artisan Markets at Knutsford (1st Sun), Wilmslow (3rd Sun), Middlewich (last Sat) and Northwich (2nd Sat)
Artisan food, drink, art and craft market and event. Traders include Cheshire Cheesecakes, Winkle Beer Company - and 100s more.

3. Foodie Friday at Stockport Market (various Fri)
Foodie Friday is Stockport Market's umbrella name for gourmet food and food-to-go. Look out for #FoodieFriday on Twitter, and check out hog roasts, fresh wood fired pizzas from the Pizza Peddlers, as well as meaty bites from Big D BBQ plus Spud Stop potatoes.

4. Street Food Market (Thu-Sat)
Piccadilly Gardens is taken over by street food vendors every week. Expect artisan food sold on the streets served up by Manchester favourites including tapas, dim sum and gourmet hotdogs and burgers from the Lakeland Picnic Company.

5. Levenshulme Market (pictured, Sat)
Levenshulme Market is thriving - and thanks in no small part to its wealth of artisan food sellers and gourmet grub. Look out for regulars ArepaArepaArepa, Margo and Rita, Macaroon and Parched Tea Bar.
