Turtle Bay Manchester has been bringing rum, reggae, jerk and good times to the city since last May. Now, as their one-year Mancunian birthday approaches, they’re celebrating by launching a second restaurant.
This time it’s the fashionable Northern Quarter that’s set for some Caribbean sunshine.
The new restaurant is opening on Oldham Street, in the old Ryan Vintage site, and will hold 120 covers.
Whilst the menu will boast all the same favourites that Manchester knows, the interior of the restaurant is set to be different to Oxford Street with £1m being spent on a unique fit-out.
The new Northern Quarter venue, located on Oldham Street, is set to have a very different look to the original Oxford Street restaurant.
Inspired by the creativity of their new neighbourhood, the owners have already commissioned acclaimed local illustrator Stanley Chow to create a bespoke piece of artwork for the restaurant. He was given the brief of ‘Rum, Reggae and Jerk in the NQ’ and has created an original illustration, which is being used for the VIP launch party invitation and will be displayed in the restaurant as a one-off print too.
The piece ‘Bob Marley Eats Rice, Pea and Jerk’ is inspired by all the things that Turtle Bay is about – Caribbean soul food and good times. Stanley Chow, who is famed for his unique take on portrait and likeness art said:
“I wanted to keep things simple, so thought that the world’s most revered Reggae dining on their signature dish just says it all. Music and food are most people’s favourite things, and Turtle Bay captures that as a restaurant. I’m pleased to have created their first piece of art for the new place”
