Two popular venues collaborate to launch new Tib Lane bar and restaurant

28 July 2021 by Deanna Thomas

The site formerly occupied by the Belgian-inspired Bock Biere is to reopen as new three storey bar and restaurant, 10 Tib Lane.

The new venue will be a collaboration between the team behind Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun on Oldham Street in the Northen Quarter and Henry C, the award winning Chorlton bar.

Running the kitchen at 10 Tib Lane will be Alex Shaw, former Chef of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival awards in 2015. Alex has also worked as group chef for the innovative and sustainable Eagle and Child pub in Ramsbottom and helped to launch the highly regarded food offering at Volta in Didsbury.

Alex and the team will be working with Cinderwood Market Gardens who will supply some of the fresh seasonal, home-grown ingredients for the menu.

10 Tib Lane will serve a range of contemporary French inspired small plates, including lamb rump, braised broad beans, saffron aioli and rosti; a ‘club sandwich’ with chicken, truffle, smoked bacon and celeriac; and the vegetarian courgette flowers with coconut ricotta broad bean puree and espelette.

"The aim is to bring a French influenced cocktail bar and restaurant to the city centre, whilst using some of the best produce that we can source locally," says Alex. "This includes using our partner grower Cinderwood market garden in Cheshire, a one acre site that grows beautiful organic produce.

"Obviously, for some things, we had to look further afield, but we've looked for the best that we can afford. Oysters come from Islay and Cumbrae, olives from France, Iberico pork from Spain. This all fits beautifully with our drinks list which includes French classics alongside PetNat wines, and the best cocktails in the city."

The bar will offer a list natural wine, carefully chosen beer and fancy cocktails including Whisky and Soda – a blend of milk washed Chivas 12yr whisky and Mizanura blend whisky and burnt caramel vanilla; Le Mastrou with olive oil washed Plymouth gin, Lillet Blanc and Cacao Blanc; or the Matador of Del Maguey, Vida San Mezcal with lime, cold pressed pineapple, fermented ginger, agave and salt.

Ben Gretton, who launched the award-winning CBRB in 2018 with business partner Tom De Santis in 2018, said: "We wanted to create a high end experience, but without any of the stuffiness that usually comes with that.

"We want to be a place people come for a nice bottle of wine and a few oysters after an afternoon of shopping, as much as for a special date night or anniversary spot or just a place for a few afternoon cocktails and a couple of light plates.

"It really is a place for everyone and we’ve worked hard to create a relaxed vibe that isn’t trying too hard, it’s just a cool place to be."

Sophie Robson, co-owner of Chorlton favourite, Henry C with partner Joe White, added: "We’ve been customers in each other's venues for years and have total respect for how we approach the industry, so when we saw the venue and the opportunity it gave us, it was a no brainer to do it together.

"We all believe in honest service, incredible food and drink and that’s what 10 Tib Lane is about."

10 Tib Lane will open from Thursday 29th July 2021 at 10 Tib Lane, Manchester, M2 4JB
