Stockport, famed for its SK1 street parties, car park raves and foodie Fridays, is set to get a brand-new day and night-time destination just in time for summer.
All the major motives in the ever-bustling Underbanks area have been temporary events, but the new opening 'Underbank' will be permanent. Situated on the corner of the old town, this new joint will be bringing SK1's first Beer Hall and Sound System to the scene.
"This summer we open the ground floor, but if all goes well, we have plans for every floor," the team have teased.
Taking over the former HQ of a Cheshire bank and a furniture store, Underbank will be the only place which has entrances both over and under banks. This means that the roof terraces will connect to the popular old town market plaza with the ground floor linking to The Underbank, also home to Stanley, Bruk, Cantaloupe and Yellow Hammer.
Family run by local husband and wife team Des and Nina O’Malley (of Nook in Heaton Moor) they’re hoping it becomes the missing link in the emerging food and drink scene.
"Stockport is changing, you can feel it, the quality of food and drink is getting better and better and we want to be a part of it," the pair say.
The Beer Hall will serve a curated selection of local brews from Runaway to Pomona and a proper pint of Guinness all the way through to frozen margaritas from mango to coconut. Just in time for summer, customers can sip on their tipples on the sun-soaked front terrace.
The sound system is an ode to the commitment of supporting DJs and party collectives. It will be the first Void sound system in Stockport, delivered by Hollowsphere, who have done festival sound systems all across the globe.
The launch festival weekend boasts everyone from Rich Reason to James Holroyd and Mix-Stress to Sticky Heat taking over the system.
Each season special guest kitchens will be spotlighted. For the launch expect Indian small plates, Pachos, and kebabs from Steve Patel’s.
"We’re working around the clock to get open. We will open in phases, and will be opening up more floors as we grow. In the basement we have a recording studio and events space. We have plans for Stockport's first roof terrace next year.. If all goes to plan," the team adds.
As part of their soft launch, while they train the team, join them before 8pm on Saturday 24th or Bank Holiday Sunday 25th May and get 50% off your bill if you follow them on @theunderbank.
The official opening is Friday 30th May and Saturday 31st May.
Underbank will be open Thursdays to Sundays every week from midday to 1am.
