Veeno is an Italian wine bar nestled on Brazennose street, just off Albert Square. Upon entering, it’s clear that this little bar has authenticity, knowledge and atmosphere to rival any drinking spot in Manchester.
Tucked off the main thoroughfare, the quiet, pedestrianised street makes for lovely al fresco drinking when the sun shines. Veeno also serves up a range of traditional Italian spuntini - (snacks) platters with cured meats, cheeses, focaccia are perfect partners for the wines on offer.
The wine is sourced entirely from the owner’s family vineyard, the multi-award winning Caruso & Minini. From grape to glass, this wine has been through the exacting standards of the 120 hectare estate, and the quality shines through in the finished product.
The wine is also available to take home by the bottle, and the staff are always happy to recommend a glass to suit your taste.
As they source all of their wine directly, it’s happily affordable. Veeno’s lunch deal is certainly worth noting, just £4.90 for a soft drink or a glass of house wine and a focaccia or piadina of your choice. For under a fiver you can escape the office and get a quality lunch in a relaxed settting. Or, if you’re in a rush, the food is also available to take away.
As well as their wine, Veeno brings a taste of the Italian drinking culture to Manchester, and the best way to sample this is at their weekly Apericena.
The Veeno Apericena is rooted in the traditional Italian aperitivo: a chance to catch up with friends and unwind after work, while enjoying some homemade local dishes before heading home.
Every Wednesday from five till eight you can buy a glass of wine and help yourself to the Italian buffet for the fantastic price of just £7. The food on offer changes throughout the night, from traditional Italian cheese and ham, to pasta with artichokes, saffron and pancetta. It’s a generous offering of relaxed, rustic and quality dishes.
The staff at Veeno are incredibly friendly, and scores of regulars of the Apericena are testament to the welcoming and homely atmosphere. Book ahead to save your place. As word gets out, the Apericena is quickly becoming the place to be on Wednesday after work, and you won't want to miss out.
As well as Mancheter, Veeno also has branches in Leeds and York, and a Liverpool branch launching later this month.
Be sure to sign up to the Taste of Manchester newsletter on our homepage– as next week we’re sending out an exclusive offer with Veeno Manchester when you book ahead.
