Vegetarian Week launches in Albert Square

26 April 2011

To celebrate the start of National Vegetarian Week 2011, the Vegetarian Society is hosting a free public event in Albert Square on Saturday May 21. The veg-tastic party is completely free to attend, and the big idea is to get the word out there that being vegetarian is a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle choice for all. There will be interactive games, information, live cookery demos from chefs, plenty of veggie snacks to tuck into and of course lots of free samples (our favourite bit).

Chefs will be on site from the Vegetarian Society’s critically acclaimed Cordon Vert cookery school, as well as talented veg-loving cooks from across the UK. The kind of entertainment that you’ll find on site includes a human fruit machine, while visitors will get the chance to test their strength, make smoothies with their feet and power various devices by pedalling a bike.

The Vegetarian Society was founded in Manchester in 1847 where its headquarters remain and the meat-free movement continues to win fans as the years go by. For those interested in finding out more, click here for more details.
