WEIR MILL: New images of Stockport’s indie food & drink development released

13 December 2025 by Rhiannon Ingle

Fresh CGI images have dropped for Stockport’s Weir Mill redevelopment.

Built into the town’s landmark railway viaduct, the new public space, Weaver’s Square, is shaping up as a lively hub for live music, street food pop-ups, parties and laid-back outdoor dining.

Led by Capital&Centric alongside Stockport Council and the Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation, the scheme is on track for completion next spring. The project brings a Grade II listed mill back to life as 253 new homes.

Weaver’s Square will host a mix of independent bars, restaurants and cafés, with 10 operators planned. Around 65,000 sq ft of outdoor space will wrap around the site, including landscaped planting, a riverside terrace and a central courtyard.

Cllr Micheala Meikle, Stockport Council cabinet member for economy, skills and regeneration, said: "Our town centre regeneration is about more than building new homes, it’s about creating vibrant neighbourhoods and breathing new life into Stockport’s heritage, giving our historic buildings a future.

"While the Grade-II listed former mill is being carefully restored for residents, the new public square will create opportunities for independent businesses to thrive and for people from across the borough to come and enjoy our buzzing town centre.

"It’s incredibly exciting to see how our riverside will soon be opened up into an inviting outdoor space where communities can come together over great food, live music, and creative events from day to night."

John Moffat, joint managing director at Capital&Centric added: "Weir Mill isn’t your bog-standard development. Whether it’s live music under the iconic viaduct arches, grabbing food with mates or stumbling across the latest pop-up, it’s the kind of neighbourhood that feels buzzing, alive and full of character. With the first food and drink operators set to be announced soon, it’s about to get really exciting."

The team is still inviting independent businesses to get involved at Weir Mill. Expressions of interest can be sent to [email protected].
