THE Northern Quarter is going all feral. First The Quick Brown Fox, now The Wolf At The Door. That’s the new name for Wilderness Bar + Kitchen in Thomas Street.
Talk about the Wilderness Years – this is the Wilderness Weeks. This glorious Nordic inspired eaterie and cutting edge cocktail bar only opened mid-August on the site of NQ pioneer Odd and the ill-fated Folk & Soul. we loved it at first sight.
It seems a Birmingham bar called Wilderness took umbrage at the name similarity. Whatever, Wilderness Bar + Kitchen have issued a statement: “The owners became aware of The Wilderness in Birmingham, a rock and roll fine dining concept in the City’s Jewellery Quarter. Both establishments share a strong commitment to seasonal ingredients and exceptional cooking, and so to avoid potential confusion, Wilderness Bar + Kitchen have decided to rename themselves Wolf At The Door.”
ToM like the name and wishes the Wolf luck in its pursuit of the ‘Avant Garde Cocktail Menu’ prize in the Imbibe Drinks List of the Year awards, to be announced on October 21.
It’s all happened rather swiftly. When we passed the bar they were changing the signs, the website has become www.watd.co.uk, the `Twitter account @WATD_NQ. The offering won’t change. The quirks and canoes stay.
Owner Dan Morris told us: “Since we first heard about The Wilderness in Birmingham, we have taken some time to get to know them and what they do. It is great to see like minded people doing so well and we decided that as we both have big ambitions for the future it is best to make this change today. The offering, design and ethos of our space will all remain the same and we will continue to look forwards and do our best to make Wolf At The Door a really special place that we can be proud of”.
