Where to eat and drink in Manchester - February 2022

28 January 2022 by Deanna Thomas

It may be a short month, but Manchester’s restaurants and bars are packing in the fun with special events, deals, and seasonal dishes this February.

There’s Chinese New Year to celebrate as we enter the Year of the Tiger at the very beginning of the month and then, of course, Valentine’s Day where diners hope to find (or keep) love over dinner and drinks. We’ll publish separate features for those, but here’s where you’ll find some of the food and drink highlights happening across Manchester in February 2022.

Where: The Jane Eyre, Escape to Freight Island

What: Their special £1 Oyster and £7 Champagne offer

Where: Nell's New York Pizza and Bar at KampusNell’s Pizza at Common, and also The Beagle in Chorlton

What: Nell's February Specials.

Ever seasonally appropriate, Nell’s have gone all romantic this month, harking back to lost loves of the pizza menu – because there’s nothing more romantic than a giant disc of carbs and cheese. Turns out the ones guests all been pining for are the Cacio e Pepe, (Fior de Latte Mozzarella, Pancetta and Pecorino cream) and the Sausage & Peppers (Roasted Peppers and House Sausage) - so they're back, with a third wheel. Nell’s have also added a Vegan Sausage and Peppers to the mix to make sure everyone is well catered for. They’re available in the 14in format. Look out for their almost-ready-to-launch brand new cocktail menu too.

Where: The Black Friar Pub, Salford

What: New Daily Pie Specials

Following a rave review from The Guardian’s Jay Rayner before Christmas, the Blackfriar Pub has launched a ‘Pie Festival’ serving up to five special pies every day of the week. Head Chef Ben Chaplin has created the ‘Pies Done Proper’ menu which includes gourmet game creations such as duck & orange, classic fish pies and modern twists like chicken nduja and lamb tagine.  Each is encased in the trademark fresh, flaky pastry (as praised by Jay) and served with sides of mash, gravy and more. Head Chef Ben Chaplin is even taking special requests from regulars – so if you have a favourite, let him know. The daily pies are just £10 during the week, before 6.30pm.

Open from 12.00 - 11.00pm Tuesday to Sunday, bookings are recommended but walk-ins are always welcome, and remember that it’s a proper pub so you can just head to the bar.
