BIN the apple as the food of love. ToM’s fruit never to be forbidden is the mango. OK it won’t be until April that the first Alphonsos will be shipped over from India in all their juicy glory but a humbler mango’s presence – along with romantic rose – in Bundobust’s Pancake Day special has set our hearts aflutter. Who needs Valentine’s Day?
Chesf at the Indian veggie meets craft beer haven off Piccadilly has created a dessert featuring the iconic Indian street food pancake, the dosa. All week, including Shrove Tuesday on the 25th, until Sunday, March 1, you can get a double helping pancakes made from (gluten-free) rice flour – one flavoured with mango puree and one with rosewater.
They come served with shrikand, a traditional hung yoghurt sweetened and flavoured with cardamom, then topped with mango ras, pistachio, and fresh pomegranate. All for just a fiver.
Bundobust Manchester is located at 61 Piccadilly, M1 2AG. They will open their second venue in the city, complete with its own brewery, in late spring. We went for a look round the Oxford Street site.
