THE Great British Menu on BBC2 simmers through the nail-biting final judging all week – without one of the stars of this year’s programme.
Eve Townson, chef at the Eagle and Child, Ramsbottom, lost out in the regional heat despite winning a lot of admiration for her cooking, following the brief of celebrating 100 years of the Women’s Institute.
Now her competition menu is to feature in a special Taste of Lancashire dinner at the hilltop hostelry, Food Pub of the Year in the 2015 Manchester Food and Drink Awards – and we have a great prize to give away of a table for two plus a bottle of house wine.
For your chance to win simply email how many years the Women’s Institute has been in existence to: [email protected]. Closing date is noon on Tuesday, October 13.
The dinner takes place on Friday, October 16, a week after the GBM panel decides which finalists’ dishes will be served at the WI Centenary Dinner.
Being served at the Eagle and Child will be:
‘A Nod to Winnie Swarbrick’ – Confit Goosnargh chicken, pickled vegetables, beetroot ketchup, Lancashire hard.
‘Twinset & Pearls’ – Seared halibut, shellfish broth, lemon pearls
‘A Quintessential English Countryside’ – Albert Matthews' award-winning heather-fed lamb chump, shepherd’s pie, baby carrots and scorched baby leeks, Jerusalem artichoke puree with lamb jus.
‘Lancashire Bobbin’ – White chocolate mousse, blackberries.
It costs £65 a head (including coffee and chocolates) and there is an optional wine flight at £35 provided by Ramsbottom’s excellent Vineyard. http://www.thevineyardwineshop.co.uk.
