Wine of week: Cotes-du-Rhone Villages 2008

27 July 2010

Neil Sowerby Sweet strawberryish Grenache (70 per cent) fruit dominates Caves Saint Pierre Cotes-du-Rhone Villages 2008, but equal measures of other Southern French grape staples Syrah, Mourvedre and Carignan add complexity and delicacy. Vivid purple in hue with voluptuous scents of cherry and blackcurrant, this is a real treat from the Rhone Valley operation of dependable French wine giant Skalli.

Tesco and Asda, £8.98.
