MUSE, Adele and Coldplay all headline the Pyramid Stage menu at this year’s Glastonbury Festival running from this Wednesday, June 22 to Sunday, June 26. With 135,000 folk due to brave the inevitable mud the unsung stars are those street food traders who refuel the throngs.
Step forward Manchester’s grill tea-room Zouk, their mobile operation featuring sizzling woks and a smoking hot charcoal grill no stranger to the world’s largest greenfield festival.
Last year they won the coveted Traders Award for Best Stand and this year they will be aiming to take home the title again with a selection of delicious food from Katti Rolls (Zouk’s Indian wraps), Samosa Chaat, Lamb Rogan Josh and Chicken Tikka Masala.
After that it’s non-stop for the stall this summer as it pops up at the Secret Garden Party, the Harewood House Great British food Festival, Boom Town, Yorkshire Food and Drink Festival and Car Fest North and South to name just a few. Here’s the full list.
Stay at homes can enjoy their beautifully revamped outdoor terrace on Chester Street off Oxford Road.
The indefatigable Zouk team also join three other city centre Indian restaurants – Asha’s Eastzeast and Scene – to represent Manchester against every other major city in the annual quest to become Curry Capital of Britain.
These restaurants will now be judged secretly and challenged to raise money for charity to form the basis of each city's bid for the title, to be combined with a council submission and other research material. Votes for cities can still be made at [email protected] until September 1.
The contest will culminate in London during National Curry Week (October 10-16) at a final featuring winners from each home nation plus London.
