Worsley’s Greyhound pub reborn as Coal & Cotton with its own distillery

20 October 2019

GIN and a nod to the industrial past – now this mantra for wannabe bar success is spreading beyond the city centre to deepest Worsley and the new owners of Worsley’s Greyhound pub are going the full measure and even installing its own in-house distillery.

In its new guise the hostelry on Leigh Road, Boothstown will trade under the name, Coal & Cotton, a nod to the area’s rich mining and textile history. Some £750,000 is being spent by new owners, Green & Salmon who are partnering with Star pubs.

They promise a menu inspired by British classics, with a subtle international twist, an innovative cocktail list and that distillery. Expect light bites at lunch, a gin-based afternoon tea and hearty pub classics in the evening. It’s certainly ticking lots of boxes, promising family-friendliness and live music at the weekends

Co-owner Jason Green told us: “I’m local myself and have lived in the area for over 15 years. Having recently left the corporate world, I wanted to set up my own business that I can genuinely say I am proud of. I would love to create something that I would like to go to myself within the area as I feel it is crying out for what we have to offer…”

Coal & Cotton will open mid-November once the extensive refurb is complete.
