You have lift-off! 230 US craft beers pouring at mega vending machine

WHAT we need is more beer. After supping Manchester dry during this long hot summer to end all long, hot summers there’s now a chance to contemplate escaping the coming winter while tackling a mind-boggling array of craft ales from one of the great destinations – the USA.

Head down to Spinningfields Square on Friday and Saturday, September 14 and 15. and tap into Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines’ specially flown-in vending machine.

It will be serving 230 different US craft beers – from San Francisco’s Anchor Steam to Neapolitan Milk Stout from Michigan and Wandering Blues in Georgia. Oh, and if you really must, there’s non-alcoholic root beers, too.

It’s all to publicise the 200-plus US destinations that UK travellers can fly to from Manchester Airport. So there’ll be in-flight snacks and money-off flight vouchers also on offer, both days, from noon until 7pm.

Our resident beer expert recommends you try (in moderation, of course):

New York: Sixpoint Brewing Sweet Action (5.0% ABV) Founded in 2004 in Brooklyn, Sixpoint started as a draught-only brewery before moving on to release canned creations in 2010. The company's motto is Beer is Culture, a play on the cultural significance of beer and brewing, as well as the point that yeast is, in fact, a culture.

Boston: Spencer Brewing Trappist Ale (6.5% ABV) Brewed by the Trappist monks of St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, the Spencer Brewery
