Manchester's favourite cafe-come-gift shop reopened this week. After a complete overhaul it feels more spacious - but it still retains both sides of it's cafe/shop personality. The cafe takes up a slightly smaller space, and there's a new tea, coffee and sandwich menu which has a Scandinavian theme. According to the staff, there's a plan to introduce lots of topping-topped 'tartines' in the coming months but for the moment, we like the sound of cumin Gouda and quince jelly on Kesselbrot bread with red onion and mayo, or avocado, spinach, carrot, tomato, walnuts and harissa mayo on granary (surely that's something like seven portions of veg in one?) from the temporary menu. The giftshop is a third bigger and has been almost entirely re-stocked with colourful new gifts and keepsakes. Objects of note include 'chilli pepper' fairy lights, cute Jelly Cat soft toys, Finnish Muurla metal pans and beakers, lampshades, cushions and jewellery. Oklahoma's trademark boho-hippy vibe remains with designer plastic stools supplied Martino Gamper, white tiling with yellow grout and bespoke tables. It's as cool a place as ever to hang out.
