Sicilian NQ brings a proper taste of Sicily to the Northern Quarter, with a menu that leans heavily into pistachios, seafood and plenty of rich, comforting flavours.
We started with the Mr Mount Etna arancino, a volcanic-looking rice ball packed with slow-cooked Sicilian ragù. The molten centre, extra ragù and parmesan fondue make this one seriously indulgent starter. The pistachio arancino goes in a completely different direction, with spinach inside and a creamy homemade pistachio sauce finished with crunchy pistachio granella. Pistachio fans will be very happy here.
For pasta, the spaghetti vongole keeps things simple with clams, chilli, parsley and a touch of Etna Bianco. Fresh, garlicky and nicely balanced, it lets the seafood do the work. The Pistacchiosa is richer, coating the pasta in a creamy pistachio pesto and plenty of pistachio granella. It is nicely nutty without becoming too heavy.
The seafood ravioli is another highlight. Fresh ravioli filled with scallops and chives comes with sautéed tomatoes, spicy clams and mussels, bringing plenty of seafood flavour and a very welcome hit of heat.
For dessert, we opted for the classic tiramisù, with espresso-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cream and cacao. Simple, creamy and exactly what you want after a plate of pasta.
Sicilian NQ is a good shout for generous Sicilian comfort food in the heart of Manchester. The pistachio dishes are the standouts, while the seafood pasta keeps things fresh and distinctly Mediterranean.
