Another chilled favourite, Common’s menu is a work of art, finely honed to the hipster Northern Quarter palate. Felt, chipboard and plain furniture give the impression of being part of a work in progress, as artwork painted directly on to the walls weaves its way around you. The burgers here are more solid and hearty than most. Choose from cheeseburger with gherkins, onions, French’s mustard and cheese (£7.95) or go exotic with the Maple Bacon burger including sweet-cure bacon and smoked cheese, or opt for Blacksticks blue, rocket and horseradish (£8.50). Our favourite is probably the epic Reuben burger, a beast of a bite, comprised of sauerkraut, pastrami and Emmenthal (£9). The falafel and halloumi burger (£7.95) is a veggie fave. Despite its fashionable reputation, it’s one of the city’s best for grub and a great atmosphere.
