From its striking position underneath the Viaduct this 150-year-old free house has been a CAMRA stalwart for many years. It vies with The Magnet to be the town's foremost cask ale outlet with around 13 constantly changing beers on handpump. A  few years ago it was runner-up in the national CAMRA pub of the year awards. Nowadays it is the brewery tap for Stockport Brewing Company, launched by landlord Steve Alexander and colleague Andrew Leslie in 2014. Four rooms radiate from the busy bar, two compact snugs, a large lounge with a feature overmantle, and lastly a plainer pool room. There’s live music regularly in the beer garden and barbecue area.
