Chef Douglas Crampton has upped the game at James Martin’s eponymous restaurant inside Manchester 235 Casino, making dinner there far more than just a homage to a much-loved telly chef’s destination restaurant. Expect exquisite starters such as deep fried soft boiled organic Goosnargh hen's egg with watercress and asparagus (£6.95)or mains of ox cheek or halibut, all handled deftly by Crampton, once of Michelin-starred Anthony’s of Leeds. Service is equally well-drilled and raw materials are well sourced as you'd expect from a James Martin operation.
The 170 seat restaurant is set away from the main gaming floor on its own mezzanine floor, spotlighting original features of the historic Great Northern warehouse, such as exposed brick work and industrial-chic steel girders. Together with natural daylight and James’ own selection of luxury vintage-style fabrics and artwork it makes for an incredible dining space.
