Brothers Ben and Joe Wright opened Porta as a sort of spin-off from their award-winning Chester bistro Joseph Benjamin. They wanted the type of place that they would like to go to after a hard day at work. Somewhere that served delicious food and a good selection of drinks in a relaxed atmosphere.

Following the success of the original Chester branch, they were one of the first to spot the pull of the revamped Altrincham Market, so set up a second branch nearby. Due to its popularity, the brothers opened a third branch of Porta in Salford's Chapel Street - only about ten minutes walk away from Manchester City Centre.

The Wrights emphasise the aim is authenticity of bar snack ingredients, not fine dining, and that governs the look of this former bank on the corner of Bexley Square. Try the Presa Iberica – tender, marbled pork shoulder, served pink with a mojo verde – with a glass of Oloroso from the excellent sherry list. We also recommend the charred Tenderstem broccoli with romesco sauce which we usually order two of - even when we're dining solo!

Walk-ins only. Porta does not take bookings.
