Pot Kettle Black

Unit 14, Barton Arcade

Deansgate

Manchester

M3 2BW

Affectionately known as PBK, this Barton Arcade café describes itself as an ‘Antipodean coffee and brunch spot with a Northern Accent.’

Owners are professional rugby league stars Mark Flanagan and Jon Wilkin, who spent time soaking up the Australian café culture before creating a company dedicated to the art of brewing the best coffee and cooking-up vibrant, easy-going food.

Pot Kettle Black has become a much-loved independent in the city since opening its first site, just off Deansgate, back in 2014. They opened a second branch in Spinningfields in 2018 and you can find them at Manchester Airport’s terminal two. A branch at Angel Gardens is expected to open in July 2021.

As if that’s not enough, they now also own and operate their own Salford bakehouse – Half Dozen Other from where their crack team of passionate, happy bakers make all the bread, cakes and viennoiseries from scratch every day using traditional artisanal methods.

So what’s on the menu? Enjoy the likes of overnight oats, avo on house bread, a pulled mushroom bun, or the power-packed PKB vegan brekkie. For brunch or lunch you could choose to be virtuous with a sweet potato and kale salad or indulge in home-made banana bread with butterscotch and vanilla mascarpone.

Coffee is a speciality, but you can also get a range of teas, freshly blended smoothies or even a matcha, beetroot or turmeric latte.

Open 9am-4pm.
