Proof that craft beer and a proper trad pub atmosphere can co-exist in this modern take. Blackjack Brewery, one of the city’s best, gave this tired old boozer a major overhaul and it has worked a treat as their brewery tap.Production of the in-house beers, keg and cask, takes place 10 minutes’ walk away in the Irk Valley. The pub also stocks a fascinating range of guest beers from 12 keg lines and six cask pumps. Food is basic but well sourced – the likes of sausage from Welsh specialist Trealy Farm or a local pork pie. Games and books boost the cosy atmosphere. This winning formula saw it named 2016 Pub of the Year by both the Central Manchester branch of CAMRA and at Manchester Food and Drink Awards.
