15 June 2021 by Deanna Thomas

Kimpton Clocktower Hotel and its landmark bar & restaurant, The Refuge, has announced its summer 2021 programme for guests to enjoy throughout the warmer months. This is in addition to the summer-long street food programme happening on its beautiful Waterhouse Way terrace until August 22nd.

From Monday 21st June, the iconic building will host an immersive exhibition, ‘A Woman’s Work’ in partnership with British Culture Archive showing a collection of photographs to celebrate acclaimed female photographers in the North.

The exhibition will feature iconic social documentary photography from Salford-born Shirley Baker, one of the most pre-eminent British photographers during the post-war era, and Tyneside photographer Tish Murtha. Both best known for capturing the everyday of human life. The exhibition will also introduce the work of Heidi Alexander, who is known for documenting Stockport Market in the 1970s (image below) and Anne Worthington, who produced a body of work highlighting housing conditions and the effects of the social and economic changes from the 1980s.

The famous Kimpton social hour is to have a some very special additions, with a new honesty bar being installed in the Post Room overlooking the dome covered lobby. They will also introduce regular wine evenings every weekend accompanied by one of The Blues Kitchen Manchester residents who will play jazz, soul and blues music starting from July.

Kimpton Clocktower Hotel has also created free postcards, to encourage positive and feel-good messages, to reconnect with loved ones and share your city stay experience. Those receiving the postcard would be able to redeem a free room upgrade at any of the Kimpton UK hotels, by simply showing the postcard they received. Kimpton-bikes are also available to hotel guests who want to get around and explore all the best spots in the city in an environmentally friendly way.
