Get down – Fantastic streetwise eats at the MFDF Hub in Albert Square

4 October 2017

THE weather has not been the kindest, but the MFDF Festival Hub has provided the best party in town (the other party, of the Tory variety, has just been in the way with its ‘ring of steel’, some might say)

Copious amounts of beer, gin and wine have helped the Festival mood along with an outstanding array of street food providers. MFDF is in Albert Square until 11pm on Sunday, October 8 and it’s free to get into the Hub.

Check out these traders, offering a global melting pot of culinary treats. You’re spoilt for choice:

Los Churros Amigos

Delicious churros and melted Belgian chocolate served from a gorgeous stall made from reclaimed timber.

Bakchich

Authentic and traditional Lebanese street Food served in funky and vibrant surroundings.

Eat New York

A bagel slingin’ food truck with a New York Taxi cab swagger, specializing in salt beef bagels, cheeseburgers, bagel burgers, fries, shakes and sodas. Everything served is oozing with sauce and comes sloppy as standard.

Proove

They’re just two guys that love pizza. But not just any pizza… great Napoli-style pizza. And they want everyone to enjoy great pizza too.

Holy Crab

Superb seafood snacks and fresh oysters from an unholy female duo. Nominated for Best Street Food in this year’s MF&D Awards.

Waffle Island

Coconut macaroons, Nutella pancakes and signature waffle cones and shake cups – it’s a quality sugar rush.

Mac Factory

Six choices of gourmet Mac n Cheese, all served in attractive pots and topped with the factory boys’ signature parmesan and thyme crumble.

Little Somboon Kitchen

Pan-Asian Fusion street food from a York-based, family run operation. They source as many ingredients as possible locally (growing some themselves!).

Blue Caribou Poutine

One is from Bolton, the other from Montreal. They lived in Canada and regularly ate poutine (gravy-topped fries and cheese curds). When they settled in the UK, they couldn't find it anywhere, so they set out on a journey to create authentic poutine here in Manchester. Nominated for Best Street Food in this year’s MF&D Awards.

Grandad Sausages

It’s 50 years since Grandad Bernard set the standard for this family-run Bury banger business. These days the artisan flavours can be global, but don’t neglect the award winning pork and Bury black pudding (naturally) sausage.

Iberica

Bringing the authentic taste of Spain, which has brought such acclaim for their

Spinningfields restaurant. Check out chicken and seafood paella or bocadillo de Ibérico ham with tomato in a sourdough baguette.

Mowgli

The simple dishes of a Mowgli menu are a million miles away from the curry stereotype. They convey the truth that real Indian food is extremely healthy, often vegan and always packed with fresh flavours.

Oh My Glaze

American style quality street food, inspired by the Deep South. Nominated for Best Street Food in this year’s MF&D Awards.

Mcr Coffee

Independently owned and run company that sells freshly ground coffee and crepes.
