Manchester's Woodall’s Charcuterie Wins Coveted Good Pig Award

11 July 2017 by Neil Sowerby

STRETFORD-BASED Woodall’s Charcuterie has been awarded the prestigious Good Pig Award by the Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards. The awards are organised by Compassion in World Farming, the world’s leading animal welfare organisation.

The supply chain for their air-dried hams and salamis is managed directly from farm to fork, guaranteeing quality, traceability and the highest welfare standards. The result is an award-winning product, available in fine food and farm shops (including Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Whole Foods) as well as top restaurants. Here’s our ToM verdict

“Animal welfare is at the heart of our business, and to be awarded the very best in practice in British pig production is a tremendous accolade that we are proud to receive” says Colin Woodall. “Customers increasingly care about where their products come from and the care with which they are produced.  By carrying The Good Pig Award symbol on our products we will clearly communicate to our customers that we treat our animals with the respect that they deserve.”

The Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards, which began in 2007, celebrate the commitment of leading food businesses to improve animal welfare standards. The annual Awards comprise the Good Egg Award, Good Chicken Award, Good Dairy Award, Good Pig Award and the Good Rabbit Award.

Since 2012, the Good Pig Award has recognised companies that use or have committed to use higher welfare systems for sows and meat pigs.To date more than 37 million sows and meat pigs are set to benefit each year from the award winners’ policies.
