There’s a lot going on in the suburbs this season. Stretford and Sale Foodhalls have lined up some magnificent independent street food vendors this month. Anyone taking part in Veganuary and Dry January still have lots of treats in store and visitors can take part in various special events.
What’s happening at Stretford Foodhall?
Pan-Asian street food supers stars Dim Sum-Su have taken up residence at Stretford Foodhall’s spacious neighbourhood venue this month (until 30th January). And to mark Veganuary this year, their entire award-winning Pan-Asian menu is 100% plant based. Guests can indulge in a meat free taste of Hong Kong this January with menu highlights including steamed bao buns with a choice of panko garlic mushroom, yakitori jackfruit, satay aubergine, teriyaki banana blossom or katsu mock chicken. Visitors can also enjoy the likes of crispy, spicy blackbean and potato pockets or heavenly vegan burgers, served with Asian slaw, crispy shallots, and sriracha mayo.
Also in residence at Stretford until 30th January is The Twisted Meal. The Tex-Mex masters describe their tantalising menu as ‘soul food with a Mexican twist’ and are specialists in gluten-free goodness. Favourite dishes include Chilli Cheesesteak Quesadillas - soft folded corn tortillas, dry aged grass fed ox cheek and mince chilli, gooey cheese, morita salsa, pico de gallo, lime & chilli crumb, pink pickles, onion and coriander. Also on the menu is skin on Mexican cheesy chips topped with house made nacho cheese, lime and chilli seasoning, and Pork Carnitas made with free-range, dry-aged heritage middle white and Tamworth pork shoulder, green salsa, pink pickles, onion and coriander.
What’s happening at Sale Foodhall?
Joining Sale Foodhall’s permanent residents Basilico and What’s Your Beef? will be Nasi Lemak who will be bringing a taste of Malaysia to Stanley Square until 30th January. Expect a host of starters, mains, and sides including Sui Mai dumplings garnished with soy, sriracha, black bean chilli oil, toasted sesame seeds & green onions. Also available is Rempah fried chicken with satay peanut curry sauce or sticky sweet soy over rice or chips and Vegan Fried Chkn made with crispy seitan pieces served with basmati rice and pickled salad.
If you’ve not already been tempted by Basilico’s Nutella dessert pizza, both Sale and Stretford Foodhalls will continue to host their favourite independent, artisan makers on the counters. Look out for insta-worthy specials like green vegan pistachio macarons from English Rose Bakery, as well as Just Natas’ delicious Portuguese custard tarts.
General Stores, the onsite grocery store, stock an amazing range of vegan products to make Veganuary even more enjoyable including the dreamy Oat Milk Salted Caramel Chocolate by Hip, plus Booja Booja truffles and Vego Chocolate Spread. Those in the midst of Dry January will find loads of alcohol free craft beer, wine, and ciders (which are stocked all year round) plus really interesting soft drinks including Hip Hop Kombucha.
Everyone is welcome at Sale Foodhall’s Pub Quiz on Thursday 20th January. It’s the first of many events at Stanley Square’s newest community hub as the venue also gets the disco ball decks spinning with DJs on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for perfect weekend evening vibes.
