Brothers Ben and Joe Wright opened the original Porta as a sort of spin-off from their award-winning bistro Joseph Benjamin in Chester. They wanted the type of place that they would like to go to after a hard day at work. Somewhere that served delicious food and a good selection of drinks in a relaxed atmosphere.
Following the success of that venue, they decided to expand and were one of the first to grab a prime spot adjacent to the revamped Altrincham Market, which is where they set up their second branch . Due to its popularity, the brothers then opened a third branch of Porta in Salford's Chapel Street - only about ten minutes walk away from Manchester City Centre.
Helping to confirm Altrincham’s status as a foodie hub, owners Ben and Joe Wright emphasise that their aim is the authenticity of bar snacks and small plates rather than fine dining. Try the Presa Iberica – tender, marbled pork shoulder, served pink with a mojo verde – with a glass of Oloroso from the excellent sherry list.Porta does not take bookings, but welcome walk ins, so you might have to wait for a seat on business nights, but it's well worth it.
