This Puglian-inspired pasta kitchen in the buzzy row opposite Altrincham Market Hall is a tight squeeze. There are only 30 covers and, although they didn't used to take bookings, Covid has made them have to address that system.
The boys import their pastas and oils from their family’s South Italian homeland– even the earthenware crockery they serve it out of. Check out the daily changing blackboards for the ear-shaped pasta orecchiette with a ragu alla Napoletana, a dense tangle of beef shin, pork shoulder and spicy Tuscan sausage; or caponata, a hugely savoury melange of aubergine, celery, onion, capers, roasted peppers, onion and basil. Seafood pasta dishes are always on point here too.
Expect full flavours, daily specials, top class ingredients and reasonable priced Italian wine.
A second (and larger) Sugo has opened in Ancoats at Blossom St, Manchester M4 6BA and is planning a third venue soon in Sale.
