TV chef Simon Rimmer has revealed that he is planning to open a second Greens restaurant in Sale in summer 2022. Work is about to begin on the new venue within the Mall in Stanley Square, which is currently being redeveloped.
The vegetarian venue will join the likes of Sale Food Hall, Roti contemporary Indian restaurant, Rudy’s Pizza and soon to open second venues for Altrincham’s Blanchflower and Sugo Pasta Kitchen.
Self-taught Rimmer opened the original Greens in Lapwing Lane, West Didsbury with business Simon Connolly in 1990 – although not vegetarian themselves, they spotted a gap in the market. The neighbourhood restaurant became very popular for cooking a range of more interesting plant-based dishes including mushroom Wellington and vegetarian black pudding.
Simon Rimmer has since gone on to appear on television as the host of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch and appears regularly on various programmes. He can also be found supporting various local food festivals and has written a number of cookery books.
Sharing the news about the new Greens Sale on social media, celebrity chef Rimmer joked: “so yesterday @SimonConnolly9 and I signed the lease on a new site for @greensveggie – 31 years since we opened site 1….site 3 coming 2053!”
The new Greens Sale site will consist of a 60-cover restaurant and a 60-cover bar with space outside for al fresco dining and will be designed by Manchester-based design agency Mark Mason Design, who also designed El Gato Negro on King Street and various sites owned my Mission Mars who are behind Albert’s Schloss.
The new Greens in Sale plans to open in May 2022.
