Manchester’s garden neighbourhood, Kampus is getting even livelier.
Following the success of Nell’s Pizza, Pollen Bakery and all that’s happening at the Bungalow, a new independent dim sum and roast meats hangout has now opened.
Yum Cha Dim Sum Kitchen already has a wildly popular first restaurant on Liverpool’s Lark Lane and now they’ve launched a second spot on the first floor of Kampus, overlooking the canal. Set up by brothers Adam and Neil Wan, the move is their first expansion outside of their hometown, with the duo eager to make an impression and feed Manchester’s love of Asian food.
“We’re properly excited to open the doors and let Manchester taste our big plates, trademark roast meats and dim sum to die for,” says Adam Wan, Yum Cha Co-founder.
“Our home at Kampus is perfect and we’re proud to be joining the community alongside the likes of Nell’s, Pollen and The Beeswing. We’ll be open every day for people looking for their fix of honest, authentic Chinese food in a cool setting.”
Diners will step into a space decked out with an industrial Asian vibe, with polished concrete alongside hanging lanterns and huge murals adorning the walls. The spot – above Nell’s pizza – also boasts a first floor outside terrace overlooking the lush Kampus gardens and neighbouring the recently opened The Beeswing wine bar.
Open daily from 12pm – 10pm, Yum Cha offers authentic Chinese food with a modern twist. Expect a massive dim sum selection – including dumplings and bao buns – alongside aromatic noodle soups, Chinese roast meat dishes and bigger plates to share.
“We’re named Yum Cha after the tradition, passed down over centuries, of gathering to swap stories over tea and food,” adds Adam. “We’re keeping that culture alive at Kampus, with delicious food and a welcoming dining spot to spend time with mates and family.”
Yum Cha at Kampus is open seven days a week, with a communal vibe that will bring families and friends together to share the very best of Chinese cuisine. It’s the latest name to open at Kampus, the rental community developed by HBD and Capital&Centric, currently in the midst of a celebratory run of pop-up summer events.
“It’s been a total pleasure watching Kampus come to life this summer with major foodie openings and pop-up events,” says Adam Brady at HBD. “Manchester can finally get the full Yum Cha experience as they open their doors to their dim sum kitchen – which we’re sure will fast become a firm favourite for lovers of Chinese food. Kampus is going from strength to strength and the reaction and support from the city for our new neighbourhood has really blown us away.”
The Kampus site, bordered by Aytoun Street, Chorlton Street, Canal Street and Minshull Street, is making use of historic buildings that lay derelict for years. It sits right next to the famous Canal Street in Manchester’s Gay Village and just minutes from Piccadilly Station and offers 534 loft and new build apartments to rent along with a range of cool independent shops, bars, restaurants, and cafes.
